Purpose:
The purpose of this behaviour policy is to establish clear guidelines and expectations for all students, staff, and visitors at Darul Ihsan, ensuring a safe, respectful, and conducive environment for learning and personal growth. The goal is to foster mutual respect, personal responsibility, and a sense of community that aligns with the values of Darul Ihsan and Islamic ethics.
Core Values:
- Respect: Every individual is to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness, regardless of background, culture, or beliefs.
- Responsibility: Every member of the Darul Ihsan community is expected to take responsibility for their actions and their impact on others.
- Integrity: All members should act with honesty and uphold moral values in their conduct and decision-making.
- Compassion: We should show empathy and understanding towards others, promoting kindness and support in all interactions.
- Excellence: Striving for personal and academic excellence, while maintaining the highest standards of conduct, is key to our community ethos.
General Expectations:
- Respectful Communication: Students, staff, and visitors are expected to engage in polite, thoughtful, and clear communication at all times.
- Punctuality: All members of the community should arrive on time for classes, meetings, and events. Being late disrupts learning and activities.
- Proper Dress Code: All students and staff should adhere to the dress code, which is modest and in line with Islamic values, fostering an environment of professionalism and respect.
- Academic Integrity: Students are expected to complete their own work honestly, avoiding plagiarism, cheating, or dishonesty in assessments and other academic tasks.
- Safety and Well-being: Everyone has the right to feel safe and supported. Physical, verbal, or emotional bullying, discrimination, or harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
- Positive Attitude and Cooperation: A positive attitude toward learning and collaboration with others is expected. Disruptive behaviour that hinders learning will not be tolerated.
- Cleanliness and Care: All members of Darul Ihsan are expected to keep the premises clean and well-maintained, showing care and responsibility for the space.
Darul Ihsan Classroom Behaviour Management Procedure
- First Warning:
- If a student’s behaviour is disruptive or not in line with the expected standards, the teacher will issue a First Warning.
- The teacher will calmly and respectfully remind the student of the expected behaviour and the impact of their actions on the learning environment.
- The student will be given an opportunity to correct their behaviour and re-engage in the lesson.
- Second Warning:
- If the disruptive behaviour continues after the First Warning, the teacher will issue a Second Warning.
- The student will be reminded again of the behaviour expectations, and they will be asked to reflect on their actions.
- If the student’s behaviour does not improve, they will be asked to leave the classroom to begin the next step of the procedure.
- Removal and Self-Reflection:
- If the student’s behaviour persists, they will be removed from the classroom to reflect on their actions.
- The student will be given a self-reflection sheet to complete, which encourages them to think critically about their behaviour, its impact on others, and how they can improve moving forward.
- The student will remain in a quiet area while completing the self-reflection.
- One-on-One Discussion:
- After completing the self-reflection, the student will have a one-on-one discussion with the teacher to discuss the behaviour and the reflections they wrote down.
- The teacher will offer guidance and support on how the student can improve their behaviour and rejoin the class with a more positive approach.
- If appropriate, the student will be allowed to return to the classroom after the discussion.
- Cooling Area (If Behaviour Persists):
- If the behaviour persists despite the first steps, the student will be removed from the classroom and sent to the cooling area for the remainder of the day.
- In the cooling area, the student will be expected to remain quietly and will not be permitted to return to class for the rest of that day.
- The cooling area provides an opportunity for the student to reflect further on their actions in a quiet and controlled environment.
Ongoing Support:
- If a student is repeatedly removed from the classroom, a meeting will be arranged with the student, teacher, and parents/guardians to discuss the root cause of the behaviour and develop a plan for improvement.
- The student may also be referred for additional support or counselling if required.
Conclusion:
This behaviour management procedure is designed to provide clear steps for managing classroom behaviour while promoting reflection, responsibility, and a positive learning environment. The goal is to guide students towards self-regulation and respectful conduct in the classroom.
